Music video production

Production schedule: draft production schedule; choose song; draft synopsis; reasearch; storyboard video; find locations; find crew members; risk assessment; book equipment; produce call sheet; press kit release

  • Drafting the production schedule
Drafting the production schedule was somewhat easy, somewhat hard. Drafting a production schedule basically help you organize your time effectively. With a production schedule, you knew what dates each section of production has to be completed for, and who are your cast and crew members, and their contact details.
Creating a production schedule helped me throughout the music video process, especially through the pre-production stages.  The usefullness of the production schedule is very useful. It certainly helps you 100%.

  • Choosing the song
Choosing a song is harder than anyone would have thought. Everyone likes more than one song and invision a music video to those tracks in their heads. It's what I do. But, with producing a music video, you only need one song. But which song is a hard decision. The best thing to do is choose a song from your favourite band, and work from there. I chose Whisper by Evanescence, because the lyrics are simply amazing, and Evanescence is my favourite band.
Usefullness = very. Choosing a song is extremely important when doing a music video.
  • Drafting the synopsis
Now, this is where the hard work comes in. Drafting a synopsis is about drafting what your song is going to be about, what the music video will show. Like a brief storyboard in a way. Drafting a synopsis can be quite hard, because it's so early in the production schedule. At this point, you need to have a brief knowledge of what you're going to put into your music video.
Usefullness = quite useful since everyone needs an idea for what to show in a music video, and drafting a synopsis helps.

  • Doing the research
Research requires a lot of effort. But it's worth the effort - the more you research into your artist, the more you will understand and the more your music video will look like theirs. When producing any kind of media aspect, research must be done, otherwise the subject you're producing may not come out like you had expected.
Usefullness = 100%. Research helped me amazingly well.

  • Storyboarding the video
At this stage, you have to know what your music video is going to be like. It gives everyone an understanding in how the music video will turn out at the end. It's also a lot of work, because music video storyboard's can go on for nearly 5 pages long. It depends how long the song is. Is also requires a written section under each storyboard to tell us what shots, angles and objects are going to be used. It also requires a picture, to demonstrate.
Usefullness = very. A storyboard must be completed.

  • Finding the locations
